| I just really don't get why people don't like Gatsby. I didn't like it the first time I read it, I admit, but there's so much to like when you just slow down and read it and understand what's happening in the book. My favorite part is the little worlds that each make up for themselves, like Gatsby, that he could actually take Daisy away from Tom and it be exactly like the past, despite the fact that she had a kid, it was years into the future, and that Daisy had now become a rich bitchqueen who pretty much saw others as playthings, to be discarded and ignored when she no longer cared for them. And I love in the end how the only ones who aren't at all effected are Daisy and Tom, even though they caused the death of three people. And then the juxtaposition of the parties and Gatsby's funeral, where hundreds of people showed up and where like three people showed up. This book has no unnecessary parts, not a word out of place. Each action and line of dialogue is characterizing of someone, or describing someplace, which is then characterizing of those in that place, depending on how they react to it. I'm starting to rant... | |

I wouldn't call it so much ranting (which usually carries a negative connotation where someone attempts to destroy the position taken by another person) so much as a...well, it's late, and words are failing me right now. You're just extrapolating on the reasons you like The Great Gatsby rather than trying to convince somebody else that they're view is incorrect (although I suppose in a round-about way, that's what you're getting at). Personally, I appreciated the irony of the story, and it was a moderately interesting read when I read it, but the biggest problem for me was simply that it was out of my preferred genre. I'm more of a fantasy/sci-fi reader, and while I can appreciate other genres from time to time, they're almost never as good on the sole premise that they aren't what I usually like to read about. That's why I'd always give Ender's Game, for example, a better rating than The Great Gatsby; it's also why I marginally enjoyed 1984 better than it. It's not that the writing style is more or less elegant (far from it! One of my favorite books of all time has a very low-level vocabulary). Edit: Carmel popcorn is something I've acquired a taste for over the years, but I still much prefer the cheddar cheese popcorn that comes with it. Anybody remember the gourmet popcorn that was being advertised on television a year or two ago? The stuff with white chocolate on it?

| Maybe I will need to read it again. Who knows I might like it. The first time I read it was for school and everytime I started to read it I craved a cigarette(I have quit since).
But one thing is for sure. The movie is HORRIBLE!!!. Can we agree here Clifford?
@Ryan I used to not like caramel popcorn only because I was afraid to try it. if you make yourself at home it is amazing!
I like how this forum turned into a Book club :D

| On a semi-related note, I enjoy most forms of popcorn, but...
Cheesy > Caramel. | |

| Every Gatsby movie has been horrible. They just can't find a good Gatsby. I think they should call in the awesome wonder twin powers of Ben Afflek and Matt Damon. OR NATHAN FILLION. NATHAN FILLION COULD PULL OFF GATSBY. I love the Ender series. I've only read Ender's Game and Speaker of the Dead, but both were really good. I've been aching to buy Xenocide, or to start the Shadow series, but I just haven't. I like the original popcorn best. A little salt, little to no butter, crisp crunchy taste... I've made myself hungry. | |

| Kettlecorn has sugar sprinkled on it, if you've never had it, the best place I've ever had it, would (oddly enough) be a Blue Grass Festival, if you were directing your comment at me that is Ali | |

Puffincorn? That stuff is more addictive than cocaine. And the kicker is it doesn't even taste that good. You just develope a need for it after like three pieces.

I'm sorry, this may drop the IQ of the forum currently, but when I saw that name, was I the only one who automatically had the song "I'm fucking Matt Damon" going through their heads? and along the popcorn line of things, I like the cheesy caramel popcorn... it sounds and may even possibly look gross, but is absolutely addictive and delicious... Second Favorite would be Mallow Magic popcorn (AKA what I refer to as spooge corn) also delicious, but is something to be eatn with chopsticks forsure, or your hand is going to be completely sticky!

Yes, because I was too busy imagining Matt Damon from Team America.

Puffcorn is quite like crack. It's funny because when my fiance was still living in his "bachelor pad" we were watching half Baked and he had bought some puffcorn and I ate 2/3 of the bag. I wasn't feeling to good after that. But I couldn't stop and well I was watching a movie all about pot. Must have had the internal munchies or something.
