| PROTIP: The more muscle you have, the more calories you naturally burn at all times. Yes that's right, you burn more calories by sitting there and being buff.

| Okay Xander, you win, I've gained 20 pounds since the beginning of summer and I don't enjoy it. Wanna be something of a personal trainer for me? | |

Ouch, if you've gained weight in the Summer, you must be terribly sedentary? And I don't suppose you have a gym class this school year either. Be careful Randy, most people's metabolisms screech to a halt right after high school too. It's a very slippery slope you're descending. Just go and be active for at least 30 minutes three times a week, that's all it takes and if you don't wanna look like a total herb, just get on a bike and ride. Also I'm making it known here and now to those of you who sleep way too much (it's only a few of you chronically): It's bad for your health. Medical Problems associated with Oversleeping: Diabetes Obesity Headaches Back Pain Depression Heart Disease Death After nine hours a day, you really don't need any more, so get up and do something and try to stay awake.

| I didn't get home til 12, and didn't go to bed til 5, and mom is complaining shes fat, so since I'm up that early in the morning I started dragging her out in the mornings, It's really nice out at that time and better, only one or two people are even up and alert enough to know you're out there | |

| ALRIGHT FUCKERS I'M BRINGING IT BACK FROM THE DEAD
Alright, I do shit every day in gym class and on mon/wed/fri I do heart rate monitors. I get my target zone for 30 to 40 minutes every time and then I practice for tennis everyday after school (assuming it's not a meet). Also on monitor days I usually spend the last 5-15 minutes just lifting and working out. So it's established I keep pretty active, so what I wanna know is, why am I not really feeling a difference? My asthma, doesn't seem any better and outwardly I don't look any different. I've been at this for almost two months now so what's up? Do I still not do enough or am I just not working hard enough? Now, you've heard my questions and Xander, I need answers!

| Well Randy you need to understand that everyone's bodies are completely different, and there's a difference between being buff and being healthy.
Maybe a healthy you is a slightly pudgy wheezy one, but healthy on the inside nonetheless. You might not be able to notice it, but I'm sure you've prolly improved your heart health and such by leaps and bounds.
Also, you might not think you look any different, but I wasn't kidding when I was grabbing at your chest and saying there wasn't as much man-titty action going on.
If you're still not getting the results you want then you'll have to change your routine. It sounds like you're gearing your exercise towards maintaining current fitness, not improving. The human body and muscle systems respond from shock, and by just sitting in a target heart rate zone for a while, you're not shocking your body, at least not after the first few times you do it. Not to say it does nothing, it just won't provide the necessary force to your body after it has acclimated to such.
For example, when I do bicep-curls at the gym, I sometimes do one or two solid lifts at 60 pounds per arm, then the next lift to failure. Then I go down from there, 50 to failure, 40 to failure, 30 to failure, and even 20 to failure. Then I'll give it a minute, then do one 60 lift again, usually on failure. This provides the shock necessary for muscle growth. To add to that, I'll change up the weights and reps, maybe start with 40 to failure and go up weights till one lift failure and then go back down, or maybe even just start at 20 pounds till failure and go up weights and not down. This is how the personal trainer at the gym recommended it, and it does work.
More or less, doing the same stuff over and over won't improve anything per se, but will maintain, and maintaining health is never a bad thing. If you still want more, change it up, go a little crazy, do a little more than you realistically can, just don't let your body get used to what your doing.
Also, if you're a chronic asthmatic, from what I understand, you're just gonna have to deal with it, as that isn't going away no matter your fitness level.
And one other thing, you might not be realizing your muscle gains or other fitness benefits because you still have excess body fat, i.e. it's pretty hard to see those abs with a gut, and it's hard to realize full cardio potential when you have excess non-productive body mass. The human body more or less cannot lose any more fat than your genes and diet dictate, or unless you do harmful things to lose it. If you're working out really hard and still not losing some fat, and can't tell the benefits because of it, then maybe it could be diet, and maybe it could just be that that is your peak body. Learning to deal with your body image is another issue entirely, and one that can never really be solved through exercise.

| I've been going to a yoga studio. Just started and I've only been to 4 classes in 3 weeks buuuut, I got unlimited classes for august so I'm pretty pumped. As of right now that's all I do though, it's hard to get motivated to work out after 7 at night and before I go to work lol. Bad Shell! | |
