Pretty sure he does that in the Japanese as well, and it's either implying he's the same age as the rest of the gang, or the writers suck, or they didn't hire a continuity guy until half-way through. May also have something to do with how he is in the manga and earlier incarnations of YGO.

Maybe originally, Kiaba was supposed to be some sort school rival to Yugi instead of just some random, rich ego-maniac? Maybe it got into American hands, and we butchered the japanese storyline to make Kaiba seem cooler (I mean, he is the ultimate capitalist...).

In fact of the first generation games (Red, Yellow, Blue and Green) there are only 37 unique cries.

The rest are either copied exactly or the pitch was changed or played faster etc.

I think they pulled one over on all those ten year olds.

In fact, Joey just got his ass raped by the winged dragon of Ra... but he withstood the attack for the moment, and Kaiba was like "um..woah...wutwutwut."

Oh, and I'm having a hard time taking this episode seriously.... because Joey is all passed out and shit, and Yami is just standing there like :| but then it'll show Yugi and hes all like ;~; and literally crying his eyes out.
