| Well, they were saying that while the graphics will be wonderful and all, they're trying to make it run well on a variety of systems, and Blizzard is one company you can usually trust when it comes to that sort of thing.
Though I'm sure I'll find a way to get a new computer somehow in the near future, because this one kinda sucks.

| Way to go, you've stumbled onto the biggest scandal since the Zerglings having wings...
I've been following this very closely (since it was mentioned that Diablo 3 would not have LAN in it; well before the infamous incgamers interview) and basically there's a lot of shit going on with this, and I'm just gonna say this now; don't freak out... yet.
I would comment further but the post would be about three pages long if I were to say everything there is to say on this.

| I figured as much. All I hear is that you'll have to lan through Battlenet...
Also, some rumors that Battlenet 2.0 will be pay to play.
Highly skeptical about that, but just saying what I heard.

Marshall... lurk a lot moar before you handle such a sensitive subject. LAN through Battle.net is an oxymoron. Battle.net will always be free, this is concrete, though micro-transactions are being tossed around as ideas, though they'd only be for things like server switching etc. Current models even have zero adverts in the systems.

| My thoughts? Well, I haven't been following it as religiously as Xander has, but I have to say that this got me thinking "...what?":
We don't currently plan to support LAN play with StarCraft II, as we are building Battle.net to be the ideal destination for multiplayer gaming with StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games. While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN play and directing players to our upgraded Battle.net service was the best option to ensure a quality multiplayer experiencewith StarCraft II and safeguard against piracy.
Text bolded for emphasis. Now, Xander is going to kick my @$$ for saying this, but how the **** does a game go faster when played via a server instead of locally? I'm even more confused about the piracy thing...certainly there are more safeguards on their website over LAN in most cases, but who's gonna come within range of my house and hack into my LAN just to pirate SCII? And if they're hacking anything but SCII, SCII piracy is gonna be the least of my problems...
EDIT: Not sayin' this is gonna be a huge problem, but their logic makes no sense to me. Help maybe?

| Umm... Ryan, it means people like us can't have a huge multiplayer game going, like in the past with Dawn of War, etc.
That's basically all I get from it, though I don't play SCII, so doesn't bother me that terribly much

| Well Ryan, you're almost on the right track (at least on the thinking of "what..?").
Like I said there's a lot of things going on here, and Blizzard hasn't played all their cards yet, so I'm not gonna reveal my whole opinion of what's up here either just yet.
Although I will offer this:
No strictly definition based LAN inclusion does not help fight off piracy as a term but rather would boost retail sales as a whole. Especially with the inclusion of other ways connecting to computers other than LAN and Battle.net.
See, remember in original Starcraft there was the Spawn system, you could use one disc to create a Spawn on up to eight computers and you could play games over LAN or Battle.net with those eight people, as long as you had the original disc.
Now what we do at Marshall's is kinda like that, I have the disc, Blizzard allows for no disc usage through a patch, then we all play off of that one key on a Local Area Network.
People still pirate the game to this day even though they can never go on Battle.net because of CD key issues.
I'm guessing their current strategy is to allow the openness of the game, allowing customers API to mod the game, allowing legitimate no-CD usage and such while trading off a sales coup by having to use a Battle.net portal to further limit key sharing.
Although this will not deter pirating, even though this will be under the guise of it. In fact, as we learned from infamous examples, the internet is a harsh place and if given a particularly harsh backlash from something as DRM, the levels of pirating can increase, just as basic rebellion.
Simple answer: Blizzard is probably trying to force everyone into buying one CD-key per person, finally eliminating the sales problem (not pirating problem) of key sharing.
Complicated answer: Blizzard isn't done yet, and they've got something up their sleeve, because no inclusion of a lag-free local play environment WILL kill the game (remember that the competitive environment is one the one that made Starcraft the legend it is). I for one do not believe this is the final answer.

Disregard that, I suck cocks. I meant multiplayer through Battlenet only. But here's hoping that you're right, and Blizz really does have something up their sleeve.

Ya, I did some thinking on it after I posted, and this is the conclusion that I came to. Personally, what with WoW being so lucrative, I don't see the necessity to boost sales, but I suppose every bit helps their profit margins. Here's to hoping it won't be a big inconvenience.

| Well, if any one is interested, they just made Elder Scrolls II and Mechwarrior 4 free for download.
Though Elder Scrolls II is DOS game, so you need a DOS emulator.

| Well I finally beat World Championship 2009, which was way harder than it really should have been. I ended the survival duel with 450 life points left, and then somehow managed to beat Jack Atlus in one turn when I had 950 life points and had nothing on the field, while he had stuff on the field and full life points.
Ridiculous game is ridiculous.
