Hey guys, um, so my grandpa went to the hospital today. He had a heart attack. It was a silent one, and he's doing ok now. But umm I just want to tell you so that if I'm a little ... sad or what not, you all can know why. Umm yeah.

Trolling pays off!!!!
I was just snooping around Naomi Novik's website today (she's the author of the Temeraire series) and she just posted a new announcement on her journal today, as in this very day, how lucky is that? (I haven't looked at any author's webpage in over a month). Anyways, her first book, His Majesty's Dragon is now available for free download as a PDF, cover art and all! Now, being such huge fans as I know you all are, you now have no reason not to read it
But even more importantly, I know that there will be, in fact, a 6th book (due to her editors in August). Maybe you can't tell, but i'm happy

Ben, I'm free for random shenanigans this weekend (I believe.), and your avatar is indeed full of win (Maplestory?), and for Ryan: the only time I get the black box of doom is when I choose to attempt to edit my posts. Otherwise, now, it is the same light blue as the center of the forums.
Also, I too have the logging in problem. But I've had it for a long time.

Omg, the world is still a place worth living in. WOOOOOOOOO...OOOOOOT! I went to eat breakfast this morning and picked up the paper, and there were headlines there that made me want to cheer. Guess what people? Two things:
1) Sudan: warrents are out for the president on charges of rape, murder, etc. It's taken them six years to finally get around to it, but it's about time somebody did something, even if said international court has little power to actually drag the guy to court. So many questions/debates/student congresses about Sudan-Darfur...terrible stuff down there, really, I mean that.
2) AIDS: A university study has successfully blocked the transfer of aids in female monkeys. Said monkeys were treated to a gel treatment and then exposed to the monkey HIV virus. At the end of two weeks, none of said monkeys had HIV, even after multiple exposures, as opposed to 4/5 monkeys in the control group. The researchers were cautiously optimistic, but for cryin' out loud, they were able to block the transmission of AIDS (that's really damn close to vaccine people; it does the same thing). Unfortunately, it only works for women (sorry men, we're still screwed) but, if it ends up working in humans, it could save millions of lives (something like 2.7 million people died last year of AIDS). And here's the kicker: this gel only cost them about a penny per dose, one ****ing penny! Naturally, when commercialised, the price will skyrocket, but I'd call that cost-effective.
Thoughts? Maybe I'm just crazy, but this is the first good news I've gotten from the newspaper in a couple of weeks.

So, I might be getting braces. It's like 70% sure at the moment. $6,000, because I has no insurance.
They wanted to break my jaw for best results, I said no. Also, they want to expand the roof of my mouth, since at the moment, it is about as wide as my index finger at the front. To get my teeth straight on the bottom, they would need to remove two teeth.
What do you guys think?

Having the roof of your mouth expanded isn't that bad. I had to do that before I got braces.
They just attach this metal thing between your teeth, and theres a wheel type thing in the middle, and every day they have you give it a few turns to expand it wider, and it breaks open the bone in the roof of your mouth. I had the thing on for three months. Its not really painful like it sounds. A bit annoying to get used to at first, seeing as it takes up the top half of your mouth. Food gets caught up there, but eventually you become talented enough with your tongue to get it out. hahaa.

Ah well they said since I was older than normal for this, the expander won't have as much of an effect because the bones are already fused together, so my actual upper jaw won't expand, just the teeth.
It sounds like that would be something used as a form of torture.

If you do get braces, at least do a better job with your retainer than I did. I haven't worn the darn things in far too long, and, regretably, it's begining to show. The thought of trying to cram them back in my mouth after so many months is painful just to think about X_X

note that braces suck nuts and hurt a shit ton....
tears will be shed of pain
and your eating habits will alter every other month because of the pain...
they suck
but the results are nice...

Yeah, I know it's a slow process. They're talking two and a half years. I can most likely deal with the pain, and the results should be a pretty dramatic change.
Thanks everyone, now I kinda know what to expect, and you've made me more like 90% sure.
On a side note, the girl working at the front desk at the Ortho clinic was cute.
